Salary Range: $70,000–$85,000 annually

About the Role

We're seeking a highly competent, detail-oriented Senior Instructional Designer who brings the right balance of instructional design expertise, technical knowledge, and outstanding interpersonal skills.

In this role, you'll have the opportunity to shape and deliver educational content, learning services, and innovative training solutions across a variety of projects. You'll design learning experiences that support users throughout onboarding, skill development, and professional growth while collaborating with internal teams, subject matter experts, and external stakeholders.

The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, manages multiple priorities effectively, and brings strong project management, strategic thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills to every engagement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead projects through the complete instructional design lifecycle, including scoping, research, analysis, design, development, implementation, and launch.

  • Develop project timelines, communicate progress with stakeholders, and define success measures throughout each phase.

  • Partner with program owners and subject matter experts to identify performance gaps, learning objectives, learner needs, and evaluation strategies.

  • Facilitate discovery sessions, requirements gathering meetings, and task analyses to determine the most effective learning solutions.

  • Design and develop engaging instructional materials, including:

    • Storyboards

    • Scripts

    • Interactive eLearning

    • Tutorials

    • Simulations

    • User guides

    • Videos and audio content

    • Assessments

    • Activities

    • Facilitator guides

    • Participant materials

    • Train-the-trainer content

  • Manage multiple projects while balancing competing priorities and deadlines.

  • Serve as the voice of the learner, ensuring learning solutions remain engaging, effective, and performance-focused.

  • Design and develop learning that meets Section 508 and WCAG accessibility standards, including supporting accessibility documentation such as VPATs.

  • Adapt instructional design and review processes to support both private and public sector requirements, documentation standards, and contractual deliverables.

  • Occasionally support customer meetings, onsite visits, program reviews, and client relationships.

Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in instructional design with a strong understanding of adult learning theory and performance-based learning strategies.

  • Proven ability to move quickly from analysis through design and development in self-paced learning environments.

  • Experience facilitating brainstorming sessions and gathering requirements from stakeholders and subject matter experts.

  • Experience designing storyboards, scripts, and wireframes for advanced eLearning authoring tools, including:

    • Articulate Storyline

    • Lectora

    • CenarioVR

    • Unity (VR)

    • Multimedia development tools

  • Experience designing instructor-led training (ILT) and virtual instructor-led training (VILT), including slide presentations, facilitator guides, participant workbooks, and train-the-trainer materials.

  • Strong project and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.

  • Ability to simplify complex technical concepts into engaging, learner-friendly content using clear language and visuals.

  • Experience conducting quality assurance reviews of online learning materials.

  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and staying current with instructional design trends, technologies, and best practices.

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) required. Master's degree in Instructional Design or a related field is a plus.

  • Working knowledge of Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards, including remediation of existing learning content.

  • U.S. citizenship and the ability to successfully pass a federal background investigation.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Located in Texas, New Mexico, or Oklahoma. Candidates throughout the continental U.S. will also be considered.

  • Experience designing learning solutions for federal, military, state government, or higher education organizations.

  • Active or recently active Secret Clearance (or higher).

  • Military service or prior experience as a U.S. government civilian.

  • Experience developing learning solutions using Lectora and CenarioVR.
