Position Purpose:

At The Home Depot, we help doers get more done. Our Learning Design & Development team creates simple, relevant, and effective learning experiences for our orange-blooded associates. We have a strong team of Instructional Designers who are focused on building associate capability and driving business performance, and we’re looking to add to the team.  

That’s where you come in! The Sr. Instructional Designer serves as a strategic learning consultant, performance partner, and design thought leader. The Sr. Instructional Designer leverages advanced instructional design expertise, AI-enabled workflows, learning analytics, and consultative problem-solving to address business challenges and influence learning strategy. In addition to designing high-impact learning solutions, this role coaches and mentors other designers, pioneers innovative methodologies and technologies, and helps shape the future of learning design practices across the organization.

  • You are a trusted consultant and partner with excellent, influential communication skills. You’re able to flex your communication across various levels, speak the language of the business, and propel current thinking about learning to the next level.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities, and Key Accountabilities 

40% - Design and develop complex learning solutions, including eLearning, instructor-led training, distance learning, blended learning, etc.  

20% - Collaborate with Learning Strategy Senior Managers and subject matter experts during the analysis phase and throughout the project.   

10% - Coach and mentor Instructional Designers, including assisting with onboarding for new Instructional Designers, reviewing work, and facilitating development on current and emerging learning methods.  
10% - Work with standard development tools and software (Articulate Storyline/Rise, PowerPoint, etc.).  
10% - Communicate with project team members and effectively manage individual and group projects.   
10% - Work on creative and innovative ways to develop associates. 

Direct Manager/Direct Reports:

  • This position reports to Manager of Learning.
  • This position has 0 direct reports.

Travel Requirements:

  • Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.

Physical Requirements:

  • Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

Working Conditions:

  • Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be eighteen years of age or older.
  • Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, HR Development, Organizational Development, I/O Psychology or related field preferred (or equivalent Home Depot experience)
  • Experience in education or learning field, or similar work experience
  • Experience creating training deliverables for retail organizations
  • Experience conducting learning needs analysis and developing curriculum maps
  • 4+ Years experience in Learning field.

Minimum Education:

  • The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a associate's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.

Minimum Years of Work Experience:

  • 4

Competencies:

  • Advanced knowledge of instructional design and adult learning theories
  • Proficiency with software including Microsoft Office and standard eLearning development tools
  • Proficient knowledge of project management principles and MS Project
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
