What You'll Do

  • Be responsible for delivering new product features while driving the technical direction of our stack.

  • Have a bias to action in leading engineering teams, pushing projects from conception to production.

  • Balance of the following: driving our aggressive product roadmap, improving the performance and stability of our system, and introducing engineering best practices into the organization.

  • Manage multiple concurrent projects and coordinate with teammates and stakeholders in Austin, Sydney, and San Francisco. 

  • Lead and inspire your team to build the best e-commerce platform on the planet. 

  • Work closely with the VP of Engineering, Head of Operations, Head of Quality Engineering, Principal Architect, and other engineering leaders to drive our technical roadmap and service delivery. 

  • Collaborate with PM, engineers, and stakeholders in all three of our corporate offices.

  • Ensure that technical decisions support our goals of quality, performance, scalability, reliability, availability, and security. 

  • Anticipate changing priority and complex team dynamics and be proactive in providing solutions. 

  • Guide teams to make sound decisions on design and implementation of platform features. 

  • Drive efficient and effective software development process to rapidly deliver high quality software.

Who Are You

  • Demonstrated ability to rapidly grow and lead a team of engineers in a fast-paced startup environment. 

  • Minimum 7+ years of professional work experience working with web and internet technologies. 

  • Minimum 4+ years managing an engineering team. 

  • Experience building or managing distributed and/or SOA architectures. 

  • Experience with SaaS platforms or Cloud Computing highly desirable Solid UNIX / LAMP knowledge (ideally 5+ years working experience with PHP, MySQL, and Linux).

  • Prior hands-on experience as a software engineer developing systems at scale. 

  • Prior experience at a commerce software company is a plus. 

  • Experience with Agile methodologies, in particular SCRUM, XP, Kanban BS/MS in computer science or equivalent experience. 

  • Have an excellent ability to communicate and to coordinate.

  • Able to speak up when something just doesn’t feel right w/productive feedback.

  • Able to read and understand code. Able to find application weaknesses. 

  • Have excellent problem solving, critical thinking and debugging skills. 

  • Have a strong bias to action.

Compensation Transparency


The national base salary range for this role is posted above in this job post.

Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as relevant experience, skills, qualifications and geographic location. We also consider internal equity to help ensure fair and consistent pay practices across our teams.

Where applicable, this role may also be eligible for variable compensation (such as bonus or commission), equity, and benefits in accordance with local policies.
