6 Austin tech companies modernizing the way HR teams do their job
Some of Austin’s oldest software companies fall under the human resource tech space. But as these seasoned tech companies continue to thrive, new Austin startups have also sprouted up within the last five years to fill industry voids.

Take a look at six companies headquartered in Austin making the lives of HR professionals easier through solutions that help manage schedules, recruiting, perks and more.

Tailor-made for the restaurant industry, Hotschedules' management software makes scheduling and time-off requests so much easier than the paper slips of the past. Their system also helps restaurants recruit new talent and train new hires to get them service ready. More recently, they developed an IoT platform that pulls data from labor management, deliveries, marketing, suppliers, facilities, payment, inventory and more all on a universal system to increase revenue and lower expenses.

YouEarnedIt made the news in January for its $6.5 million Series A funding. The Austin startup provides companies with a go-to online portal that offers real-time praise and feedback between employees. Their client portfolio, which has over 100,000 users, includes Anheuser-Busch, NBC Universal, Santander, Conde Nast and Whole Foods.

Part of HR’s responsibility is to develop meaningful perks for the employees they support, and one Austin startup has developed a whole new perk category altogether: student loan help. Student Loan Genius’s platform gives companies options for how they’d like to assist with student loan debt. They can contribute matching dollars similar to a 401(k) that are applied toward loans, they can offer one-on-one services to help employees identify the most efficient repayment plans, or they can set up automatic payments that deduct directly from a worker's paycheck.

Named one of 2015’s most promising HR tech solution providers by CIO Review, PeopleAdmin’s platform streamlines the hiring process for K-12, higher ed and government organizations. Users can source candidates, track applicants, onboard new hires and digitally manage personnel records and performance. The company, which was founded in 2000, has over 115 employees in Austin.

The oldest company on our list is Asure Software. Founded in 1985 and going public in 1992, Asure serves more than 7,000 clients across the globe, providing a suite of products that streamlines everything from human capital management to workspace asset optimization.

Founded in 2005, Software Advice helps companies select the right software for their business. The website features more than 100,000 user reviews with 392 software categories available to search. Their HR search yields over 472 solutions specific to the industry. They also have a team of software advisors available by chat or call to assist in the software evaluation process.
