As Q2 rapidly approaches in the Lone Star State, Austin’s tech scene is bustling. Modern breakthroughs at SXSW decorate almost every conversation, new transplants from other tech hubs emerge as the traces of winter disappear, and fresh goals replace the faded etchings of January’s ambitions.

Among those events? A wave of tech companies are preparing to scale at a rapid pace. While massive players like Tesla, Google and Apple are expanding from Silicon Valley to the Silicon Hills of Austin, many other homegrown organizations and national businesses have their own big plans for 2022 — and 10 of them happen to be catching the industry’s attention.

Whether they’re pushing the boundaries of innovation or simply forging new paths to support their passionate internal teams, the following 10 companies have made a major impact on the local tech scene. That’s why Built In Austin dug a little deeper to discover who they are, what they’re accomplishing and what’s on the horizon for the rest of the year.

What they do: Q2 provides financial experience software solutions that are designed to deliver meaningful experiences and support lasting customer relationships.

Sharpening skill sets: Q2 wants employees to feel empowered when pursuing educational options relevant to their role. What they do: Unity is a platform for creating real-time 2D, 3D and virtual reality content. The development platform is used by creators across industries including gaming, film and architecture. The company has 4,000 employees around the world.

A worldwide impact: “Unity is truly a global company,” VP of Global Recruiting Amber Hayes previously told Built In. “The Unity team is driven by a purpose: We believe the world is better with more creators in it. We live our values and operate under the notion that the best idea wins. We have an open line of communication across our entire company, and people are encouraged to share their ideas and perspectives.”

Role call: Unity is currently looking to hire for over 80 open roles, including a technical writer, a senior business strategy operations analyst, senior software engineers, director of marketing operations, a senior product manager and more.

What they do: ThousandEyes helps enterprise companies better deal with network issues that slow down their app, website and service performance. The platform monitors the performance of cloud servers, internet providers and browsers, and alerts companies when there’s an issue that could affect the end user’s experience.

Buzzing for the future: “What excites me the most about the future of ThousandEyes is how relevant our software is to solving real business problems,” Senior Sales Manager Scott Hollingsworth previously told Built In. “We give customers visibility into the networks that are outside of their control but have an impact on customer and employee experience. Being a part of Cisco has given us additional resources and access to an immense global customer base that we can serve.”

Now hiring: The digital experience company is currently looking to fill more than 70 open roles, including a full-stack software engineer, principal product designer, a senior product marketing manager, network support engineer and more. For those looking to work from home, most positions are available remotely.

What they do: Luxury Presence is a SaaS provider for luxury real estate agents and companies. Realtors and companies can purchase template-based luxury websites, content marketing tools, SEO, lead generation and online advertising.

What they do: LegalZoom works to make legal assistance more accessible by allowing users to speak with independent attorneys through an online platform. The company now operates in both the U.S. and the U.K. as a way for people to get personalized legal and compliance advice.

Forging company culture: Leaders at LegalZoom strive to make sure their employees are taken care of. How? The company offers diverse employee resource groups to create a sense of belonging for every background, the paid opportunity to volunteer in the local community, job training workshops for additional learning, and company-sponsored family events to encourage collaboration across every team.

Seeking out engineers: The company is currently looking to hire 21 engineers for various positions, including a full stack engineer, an iOS engineer, a senior software engineer, a principal backend engineer and more.

What they do: Shipping platform Mothership creates improved access to scale to make freight shipping more efficient. Pooling freight and optimizing routes, reducing individual company footprints and eliminating dead miles are some of the ways the company is helping businesses short term and the environment long term.

Employee buzz: “I am empowered to make decisions, and if I need guidance, I can always get it,” Senior Product Manager Rachel Ku previously told Built In. “Mothership encourages ownership, which creates opportunities for employees to grow. For example, the day after I joined, I was able to dive in and deliver a mission critical feature with the support of my team. I really appreciated getting to have an impact on my first week.”

Growing remotely: Mothership is currently hiring for remote positions like a data scientist, a senior product designer, a staff iOS engineer, vice president of sales and more.
