Per the Princeton Review, marketing degrees are one of the most common amongst higher ed students. The highly competitive field can be cumbersome for job seekers, so we wanted to make it a bit easier for you. Here are five Austin tech companies looking to bring on marketers from varying levels of experience.

 

The Expedia brand headquartered in Austin leads the marketplace for vacation rentals, with sites representing 1.2 million paid listings of vacation rentals homes in 190 countries. The HomeAway portfolio includes the leading vacation rental websites HomeAway.com, VRBO.com and VacationRentals.com in the United States, as well as websites in Germany, France, Spain, Brazil, Australia, New Zealand, and Asia Pacific.

What they are looking for: People who thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment, willing to cross-company collaborate, who have the proven ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical partners at various levels within the organization, and with previous experience in a similar role. 

 

Home to funny, viral and interesting photos from around the world, theChive features over 100,000 unique photo galleries and over one million editor-curated photos. Users submit over 5,000 pieces of content daily and meet offline every week. Since its inception in 2008, theCHIVE’s community has created regional groups that have met offline to “party with a purpose” and raise over $4 million for charity.

What they are looking for: A digital marketing badass with experience working with a content publisher to head the marketing efforts for theChive.com and theberry.com. Must be intimately familiar with both websites, a degree from a four-year university, and have a confident voice and thick skin. 

 

Virtuix developed the first active VR platform Omni, a motion platform that enables waking and running in virtual environments. The company, founded in 2013, set off with a $1.1 million kickstarter campaign and has since raised over $16 million. 

What they are looking for: An energetic, experienced, and creative marketing star with a passion for virtual reality and gaming. Must demonstrate an obsession for details and be able to show previous content and video projects that you've worked on. Someone who is open and available for 10 to 20 percent travel, and has experience working on WordPress, executing trade shows, and proficiency with Adobe Photoshop.

 

Founded in 2012, OutboundEngine helps over 8,000 small business owners market themselves by doing the work for them through original content for each client, automated email campaigns and updated social media profiles. 

What they are looking for: A positive attitude and the ability to adapt to the ever-changing startup lifestyle; one to three years of experience with email marketing and nurture; experience in designing, coding and executing email campaigns; strong copywriting skills; and a commitment to ongoing learning. 

 

The Get Smart Content team connects existing marketing platforms to surface actionable insights about both prospects and content performance, allowing marketers to understand their customer segments and deliver the right message to the right audience across any marketing platform.

What they are looking for: Someone with a deep understanding of the Get Smart Content solutions portfolio and digital marketing best practices; an attention to detail; passion for creativity and problem solving; unintimidated by challenging technology; and a history of over achieving in previous roles.
