The Major Gifts Officer manages and grows a portfolio of major-gift donors, identifies new prospects, cultivates relationships, solicits gifts, and develops stewardship strategies. The role partners with regional and national development teams, leadership, volunteers, and board members to achieve fundraising goals. Responsibilities include donor engagement events, prospect research, moves management, relationship building, and implementing the East region’s fundraising strategy. The position is hybrid in Boston and requires travel, including occasional evening and weekend activities.

Leads Midwest regional fundraising strategy and revenue growth across individual, institutional, event, donor engagement, and development operations. Manages a four-member development team, oversees donor portfolios and pipelines, personally closes major gifts, activates advisory boards, and partners with executive and regional leaders. The role requires multi-state fundraising leadership, data-driven forecasting, team development, relationship management, and regular travel throughout the Midwest.

Conduct individual and institutional prospect research, donor profiling, pipeline qualification, due diligence, and risk assessments. Synthesize financial, philanthropic, and relationship information into briefings, event snapshots, leadership summaries, and board bios. Proactively identify new donor prospects, monitor wealth and philanthropic trends, and support board and geographic expansion initiatives. Train Development staff on research tools, establish service protocols, and manage research requests independently while protecting confidential information.
